The banyan found another way to birth By dropping roots from branches back to Earth And each regeneration of it stands The stronger for its reconciling strands. Throughout Karnataka it seems to be Enthralled by all we call a banyan tree; At home in reaching backwards to embrace A life it knows it chose in time and place. And more than any other tree it grows As if it needed people, cows and crows And maybe that is how the ancient mind Felt holiness and let it heal and bind; And maybe one day people here on Earth Will see the need to have a banyan birth.
