Too Calm Before The Storm

by: Dennis Keeton (beenie17@aol.com)

Every night he goes out with the guys, She gets mad at him and he wonders why, He comes home and heads straight to bed, Seems to ignore every word she said, Gives her no hugs - no kisses goodnight, Not a day goes by she feels alright, Wondering why it's happening - why he is this way, Is it her - something she did - what did she say? The single word could destroy it all, It's her decision - it's her call, Things just got worse over a period of time, How could he be so careless - or so blind? She tells him she loves him every night before bed, But his only reply is a nod of his head, She's thinking of her emotions and how much she hurts, He's thinking about getting into his lover's shirt, She says "DIVORCE" with tears in her eyes, Then he asks the idiotic question "why", She raises her voice and her heart starts to race, He gets angry and strikes her in the face, She pleads with him "don't let it come to this", Just as he is balling his left hand's fist, Nothing was accomplished - nothing completed, She realizes his love for her has been depleated, When the fight was over - she just lay there, He looks around and blood is everywhere, When he sees her his eyes do not deceive, But her? Dead? He would not believe, He stands there in shock "how could this be?" "Her? Dead? And killed by me?" He reached in his gun case and grabbed a Smith and Wesson He is now going to teach himself a lesson. With hammer cocked and gun pointed towards his head, One pull of the trigger and now he is dead, Just because one single line was crossed, Two people's lives were lost.
